Der Langrisser is the story of how a war for power between the forces of good, evil and everyone in between, engulfed an entire continent plunging its people into the chaos of war.
The story follows a young man, Erwin, who has spent the last several years traveling the countryside since his mentor, Doren, was killed defending him. One day while resting in a calm village, imperial forces invaded throwing the town into chaos. His chance encounter with a shrine maiden, Liana, and the captain of the Imperial Blue Dragon Knights, Leon, would draw him into a war where he'd be forced to follow or fight his destiny as a descendant of light.
This game was first attempted in 1998 by alamone and his group, Warui Toransu. It was dropped in 2000 and their effort was continued by No-Life Translations between 2000-2001 before being dropped again. This is a new project started by Byuu and I in late 2001. Moon Knight/No-Life gave us the scripts he and Picorat produced during their effort, and we redid all other texts that came out of the Warui Toransu period.
The hacking work that has been done on this game is sickening. There's no other way to describe it. No other SNES translation has ever had this level of treatment, and unless someone with an extremely good grasp of the 65c816 ends up unemployed for two years, none likely ever will. Just about everything that could be tweaked and improved in the original game has been so in the hack -- and we're still finding more stuff...
The translation side of things is going markedly slow due to exhaustion, but it will hopefully pick up soon. There's still a lot of bug fixing needed with all the code that has been changed in this project.
Currently there is no estimated release date, but we are hoping to start some private beta testing soon. Assuming the beta goes well and nobody leaks it, the game will hopefully be done some time in mid-late 2004.
For anyone wondering why the game has taken so long, the script literally is longer than The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (sans the foot notes and appendixes of course) and it's written in the most back-asswards language ever concieved -- Japanese.
Please do not badger us about this translation or asking to beta test. The people considered for beta testing already know who they are. We're not taking anyone else. If you ask, you go in the Hall of Shame.
