Dragon Quest V English Patch Released by Two Groups! (Pendy)

Well we were all expecting Byuu's patch to be released today and indeed, it has. Not only that but Dejap has also release an updated DQ5e patch which supposedly gets rid of all the nasty bugs the original patch had. Here's what Byuu had to say about his new patch.

"as promised, the patch is released and is located at http://www.byuu.f2s.com and i also released the source code to MOST of my work, only thing missing is dialogue compressor, dialogue decompressor [the x816 version for the english script], and the credits, so that the actual translation itself will not be victim of a cheap hack, tho someone skilled would still be able to. whatever :P that should more than prove the authenticity of our work. hands down. :) i want to offer my deepest thanks to everyone who supported my decision to hack this game anyway, and especially those who waited to play my patch!! hopefully you wont be disappointed!! :) and thank you pendy, youre in the readme. you were the only news site guy to really be pushing my story. i really appreciate that. [btw youre in the readme file with the patch ^^']"

He also mentions at his site that this is not the final version. He still wants to touch up and enhance a few things. He wants you to email him if you find any bugs or translated text. If you do find anything wrong try and provide a screenshot, and a zst before the text that is untranslated appears on screen. Preferably being 1 key away from the untranslated text.

Dejap's page went down so the patch is at Partial Translations (a partner in helping with the project). The real difference between these two patches is how each is translated. The Dejap translation is a more traditional Dragon Warrior style translation that we are all used to. However Byuu's patch is a literal translation more true to Dragon Quest. Personally I'd rather play the Byuu patch just because I'd like to see what a literal translation of a Dragon Quest game looks like. Though if you feel your going to die without a little Americanization thrown in to the translation then you should definitely go with Dejap's patch. I think I'm going to be all Dragon Warriored out for quite a while. I'm working on DW7 now, then I'll be playing DQ5, and by then the DW4 remake will be out so then I'll play that, and after all of that is done a more complete and finished DQ6 patch will probably be out (even the one out there now is pretty damn complete), and who knows how far along the status of the DW3r(SNES) and DW12r(SNES) patches will be by then. I'm bogged down with DQ and DW and it's great!

Now you might be saying, wow that's great that I have this patch that translates DQ5 into English, but where do I find the DQ5 ROM? Tomorrow or maybe even tonight I'm going to hopefully have a link to a couple of the places that have the DQ5 ROM. Since I've joined the military a year ago I've been out of the scene and have lost all my ROM links. I'll also have a guide to how to properly patch the game. While it may be easy for you computer geeks out there, some people do have trouble with that kind of thing.
